What is Dysport?
Dysport: what is it?
This is a botulinum toxin drug from the French pharmaceutical concern Beaufour Ipsen. The main active ingredient is botulinum neurotoxin type A, which blocks the transmission of nerve impulses from presynaptic membranes to muscle fibers and sweat gland cells. Thanks to this feature, Dysport has long been used in official medicine in the treatment of ophthalmological and neurological pathologies, as well as in cosmetology to correct signs of aging and treat hyperhidrosis. Is Dysport dangerous? It is logical to assume that if the main component of the drug is poison, it can be dangerous. This is wrong. Dysport contains weakened and diluted botulinum toxin, which acts locally and does not have a systemic effect on the body, that is, it does not penetrate the bloodstream and does not affect other organs and tissues.
The safety of Dysport injections has been proven by clinical trials conducted in more than 120 countries. Confirmation of the high safety profile is the fact that Dysport is used in neurology in protocols for the treatment of cerebral palsy, and it is allowed to be administered even to children over the age of two years.
What are Botox and Dysport?
These injections are based on botulinum toxin type A, which is produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum in spaces without oxygen. Botox and Dysport are used to combat age-related changes:
- fine and deep wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes, between the eyebrows, in the nose and lips;
- low eyebrows, giving the face a dissatisfied look;
- increased sweating in the armpits, feet and palms;
- gummy smile - the gap in the gums when smiling.
The drugs are injected under the skin and block the nerve impulse to the target facial muscle. The muscle remains relaxed, wrinkles are smoothed out.
Botox and Dysport affect the facial muscles, but there are serious differences between these agents. We will consider them below, which will allow you to make the right decision.
Botox
These injections are made in the USA and are the most famous among cosmetologists. Botox is injected into areas of muscle accumulation because its action is largely aimed at reducing the tone of muscle fibers. If all doctor's recommendations are followed, patients do not experience any side effects.
…
Dysport
A French drug, it is injected into the areas of plexus of nerves and muscles to relieve spasms and get rid of wrinkles. Suitable for the treatment of hyperhidrosis - Dysport spreads throughout the tissues beyond the injection area. The main analogue of Botox among all injections with bouline toxin.
Botox therapy: history
Medicines based on botulinum toxin began to be used in the eighties. Initially, the purpose of their use was the treatment of ophthalmological and neurological diseases, but ophthalmologists very soon discovered an interesting “side effect” of injections in the form of smoothing wrinkles around the eyes. This was the impetus for studying the possibilities of using drugs in cosmetology and aesthetic medicine.
The first drug based on botulinum toxin was Oculinum, produced by a now forgotten American pharmaceutical company. In 1989, this company was absorbed by the Allergan concern, which renamed the product Botox. The Allergan concern owns the rights to Botox to this day.
Botox has been used in cosmetology since 1991. Despite the fact that Dysport is considered the “younger brother” of Botox, the difference between them is extremely small. This botulinum toxin drug, produced by the French pharmaceutical giant Beaufour Ipsen, has been on the market since 1991. A few years later, these “wrinkle drugs” had their first Chinese competitor - Lantox.
Botox received official approval from the FDA, one of the most authoritative institutes for drug quality control, in 2002. It should be noted that this year marked the official approval by the FDA for the use of botulinum toxin, namely Botox, for the correction of facial wrinkles and other aesthetic imperfections. It also needs to be said that Botox was successfully used in cosmetology long before its official approval. Doctors have accumulated extensive practical experience in its use, proving its high effectiveness combined with an excellent safety profile.
Dysport has not received official approval from the FDA (that is, it is still not considered an approved drug in the United States), but this is explained by lobbying for the interests of Allergan. The American manufacturer does not want to let a strong competitor into the domestic market. Meanwhile, clinical studies of Dysport were conducted in 120 countries around the world, proving its safety and effectiveness in correcting wrinkles.
In Russia, the official approval of Botox dates back to 2002. Dysport was approved for use in cosmetology in 2003. In 2008, a similar permit was issued to the Chinese Lantox. It should be noted that these drugs began to be used in clinical medicine in the Russian Federation long before their effectiveness in cosmetology was recognized. In the treatment of neurological diseases (cerebral palsy, consequences of stroke), Botox has been used since 1997, and Dysport since 1999.

Dysport injections: before and after photos
This procedure is not only effective, but also completely safe. In addition, it has minimum age restrictions and is allowed from 18 to 65 years.
The use of Botox therapy in cosmetology
The properties of botulinum toxin mentioned above are widely used in cosmetology. With the help of Dysport injections, it is possible to completely smooth out hyperkinetic wrinkles, that is, wrinkles the appearance of which is caused by increased activity of the facial muscles. A similar result is achieved by the introduction of Dysport analogues - Botox, Xeomin and Lantox.
Botulinum toxin smoothes out horizontal wrinkles in the frontal area, “anger lines” between the eyebrows, small wrinkles on the bridge of the nose, in the corners of the eyes and mouth. The mechanism of action for all the cosmetic defects listed above remains unchanged - blocking the release of acetylcholine and relaxing facial muscles.
Indications and contraindications
Injections of the drug Dysport are performed in the presence of age-related changes, facial asymmetry, muscle spasms, and hyperhidrosis. Injections are recommended for patients 18 years of age and older. At a younger age, the drug is not used for cosmetic purposes.
There are other contraindications:
- colds, infectious, chronic diseases in the acute stage;
- intolerance to botulinum toxin;
- malignant neoplasms;
- disorders of the nervous system, epilepsy;
- pregnancy, lactation;
- hemophilia;
- menstruation;
- inflammation of the skin in the area where the drug was administered.
Lifting effect of Botox therapy
With the help of Dysport injections, you can achieve a pronounced lifting effect, that is, lift the drooping corners of the eyes or mouth. How can you get a tightening effect by blocking muscle contraction? To answer this question, you need to remember the so-called antagonist muscles.
Almost every muscle has an antagonist, that is, a muscle that performs the opposite function. A simple example: the biceps brachii flexes the arm at the elbow joint, and the triceps muscle, also known as the triceps, extends the arm. The biceps and triceps perform opposite functions, which means that they are antagonists.
The situation is similar with facial muscles. There are muscles that raise the corners of the eyes and mouth, and there are muscles that lower them. By injecting Dysport into the muscles that depress the corners of the mouth, cosmetologists achieve a lifting effect, since nothing prevents their antagonists from lifting the soft tissues to a position natural for young and beautiful facial skin.
Summarizing the above, we can distinguish the following areas of application of Dysport:
- Frontal area.
- Between the eyebrows.
- Bridge of the nose.
- Eyebrow arches.
- Outer corners of the eyes.
- Corners of the mouth.
- Neck.
- Neckline area.
Complications after injections
When you decide to have Dysport injections, read reviews online, check the qualifications of the specialist, whether the cosmetologist has a work license and a diploma of higher medical education. Otherwise, side effects may appear - a feeling of muscle stiffness (mask), severe swelling, bruises after injections, curvature of the nasolabial folds, drooping eyelids, raising the eyebrow line. They are present from two to three days to several weeks.

Unpleasant consequences are also explained by the high penetrating ability of the composition.
Botox - fears and prejudices
Many women are afraid: what if their face becomes like a mask? What if natural facial expressions and charm are lost? And, I must say, such fears are justified... You've probably seen photos of popular stars - victims of unsuccessful Botox injections?
Yes, anything can happen, of course... Dysport is made in Moscow everywhere... And sometimes there are unscrupulous cosmetologists, uncertified pseudo-doctors, low-quality drugs, underground-produced Botox or its cheap analogues... But this does NOT always happen and NOT everywhere!
At LIPSCLINIC we guarantee that all of the above is not about us. Why?
Because…

- Our clinic uses a unique “Living Face” technique! After the procedure, your face will retain 100% of its natural facial activity, only wrinkles will disappear!

Yes, Moscow has long accepted procedures such as Botox as something commonplace and taken for granted in the 21st century - but we should not forget to be careful...
You can sign up for a free consultation by calling +7 or leave a request.
By the way, you can do Dysport or Botox for another purpose... For example, to combat excessive sweating. If you are familiar with this problem firsthand, see how easily it can be solved.
Benefits of the procedure:
- the procedure is painless and does not injure the skin;
- the recovery period will take only a few days;
- In the first days after injections, the skin must be protected from sunlight and heat exposure. But after 3 days you will be able to sunbathe, visit the pool and sauna.
Before starting the procedure, the cosmetologist will ask you to smile or feign surprise in order to determine the point of injection of the drug and get the maximum effect without compromising the natural facial expressions.
The doctor will individually select the optimal dose of the drug, select injection points and perform the procedure almost painlessly. The remarkable effect of injections will delight you for 6-10 months. Then the procedure can be repeated. Considering the duration of action and the cost of the drugs, Botox and Dysport injections are fully justified - for six months you can forget about wrinkles.
EFFECTIVENESS AND DURATION OF ACTION
Dysport into the nasolabial folds has the following advantages:
- Instant action (maximum effectiveness occurs a week after visiting a specialist, but the result appears already on the second day).
- Long-term effectiveness (the duration of one session is enough for 4-6 months, but with further use of the treatment the effect will only increase).
- Proven effect (the procedure is suitable for many women, with the exception of patients who have acquired immunity to Dysport toxin).
It is recommended to repeat botulinum toxin processes no more often than once every 3 months.
The effect will last up to six months, but to enhance the resulting effectiveness, the session is recommended to be performed systematically (up to three times a year). Human muscles get used to being in a state of blocking, so the gap between corrections can be gradually increased.
Alcohol
The most popular, but rather dangerous way to get rid of Dysport. It is indeed an antagonist of botulinum toxin and promotes its denaturation. But it greatly increases the risk of complications and side effects. Moreover, alcohol works successfully only on the first day after injection of the drug, when the final result of its administration is still difficult to assess.
Why do doctors always warn about the incompatibility of ethyl alcohol and neurotoxin type A? Mainly due to the fact that both of these substances directly affect the central nervous system, and in a depressing way.
If you give an injection while drinking alcohol, you may experience:
- hallucinations;
- deep fainting;
- loss of orientation;
- convulsions;
- double vision;
- articulation disorder;
- nausea and vomiting;
- severe swelling.
In severe cases, breathing may even stop. When alcohol is taken after the introduction of a neurotoxin, the negative reaction of the body is weaker, but it is still present. And first of all it is expressed in signs of general intoxication and intestinal disorders.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION OF DYSPORT
Disport has the ability to relax the muscle tissue responsible for mouth movement and helps smooth out facial wrinkles (it cannot cope with deep creases). To effectively eliminate the problem, Dysport is used in conjunction with other corrective methods.
Comprehensive program:
- Contour plastic.
- Introduction of special threads.
- Peels.
- Laser polishing.
- The use of disport (botulinum toxin for non-surgical rejuvenation, is widely used in cosmetology).
Dysport into the nasolabial folds is the optimal and correct solution if you want to get rid of unsightly furrows that age your face. You can only entrust a rejuvenation session to a qualified specialist so that no adverse consequences arise.
Rehabilitation after Dysport injections
After dysport, you should not visit the sauna, bathhouse or solarium for a week, drink alcohol, drink strong tea and coffee, eat spicy food, sunbathe in the sun or make cosmetic masks. It is strictly forbidden to rub or massage your face after injections, as well as touch it with your hands.
photos before and after Dysport injections
It is necessary to maintain an upright position during the first 4 hours after the procedure, drink antibiotics and exercise. Further skin care involves the use of anti-aging creams to maintain the effect.
Massage
This is the cheapest, simplest and safest way to quickly remove Dysport from the facial muscles and restore their mobility. But you need to do the massage correctly. The standard stroking movements that many are accustomed to will not work. More active manipulations are needed here.
The diagram looks something like this:
- The forehead is freed from hair, securing it with a bandage.
- The face is cleansed of cosmetics and a massage cream or oil is applied (preferably with the addition of essential oils: rosemary, lemon, eucalyptus).
- Stroking movements distribute it well.
- Spiral-shaped massage lines warm up the skin well.
- Then it is intensively tapped and pinched for 2-3 minutes.
- Confident movements with slight pressure along the massage lines accelerate lymph flow.
- By pressing biologically active points (their diagram is easy to find on the Internet) they stimulate metabolism.
- Finally, soothe the skin with soft stroking movements.
Ideally, after this, it is advisable to wash your face and wipe your face with ice cubes. By the way, if you do such a massage at least every other day, then it is quite possible to do without Botox, Dysport and similar drugs for quite a long time.
It is only important to remember that you can start doing it no earlier than 5-7 days after the injection, otherwise it will contribute to the spread of Dysport to neighboring tissues.
PRICE
How much the therapeutic and rejuvenating procedure will cost depends on the amount of the drug administered (doses are calculated individually for each patient). To determine the value, various factors are taken into account (depth of defects, skin tone).
The price in cosmetology clinics or beauty salons is influenced by the following parameters:
- Volume of units of product used.
- Number of places for treatment.
- Prestige and reputation.
- Qualification and professionalism of the master.
- Quality of the drug.
