Galvanic facial cleansing - how the procedure works and what devices are used

Movements are carried out smoothly to prevent impact on the thyroid gland. The intensity of the action gradually increases, and the frequency of electrical impulses decreases to zero.

In order to normalize the acidity of the epidermis, the skin is re-exposed, but with a positively charged electrode.

During the procedure, a chemical reaction occurs, as a result of which soap foam forms on the face. It is easily washed off with water. At the end of the procedure, the face is cleansed of any remaining liquid, covered with a mask with nourishing ingredients, and moisturized with cream. The session lasts about 30 minutes.

The essence of the procedure

Galvanic exfoliation consists of combining an electric pulse with special substances for better penetration into the deep layers of the epidermis.

Cleaning is carried out for the following problems:

  • signs of aging;
  • dark spots;
  • clogged pores;
  • greasy shine;
  • acne, blackheads.

During the procedure, contaminants are carefully removed and local metabolic processes are activated. Result:

  • deep cleansing of the skin;
  • narrowing of pores;
  • enrichment of the dermis with oxygen and nutrients;
  • reduction in the number of rashes of various etiologies;
  • relieving spasms of facial muscles;
  • normalization of the sebaceous glands;
  • hydration;
  • accelerating the process of removing toxins;
  • alignment of tone and relief;
  • elimination of wrinkles.

This technique does not cause discomfort and is absolutely painless. Can be combined with other cosmetology services: manual, vacuum, ultrasonic cleaning and laser exfoliation.

Buyanov Sergey Yurievich (Expert Doctor):

In fact, galvanic facial cleansing is comparable to deep washing - they use an alkaline solution (soap), loosen the surface layer with direct current waves, then cleanse the sweat and oil glands. After which they “rinse” and “wring out”, closing the pores of the skin.

Galvanic cleansing should not be used with chemical peeling due to the high risk of skin damage and serious complications.

Which dermatological facial cleansing is more effective?

Each person's skin needs an individual approach. Only a specialist, when examining your face, can prescribe the correct procedure. However, there are some rules.

  • Mechanical cleansing is suitable for severely inflamed areas of facial skin, when many pimples and other rashes appear. Other means are not suitable in this situation.
  • Laser cleaning is indicated for people whose defects are outwardly invisible, but unevenness when applying makeup is quite noticeable.
  • The remaining types of procedures are needed for people with too oily skin and blackheads.

Dermatological facial cleansing and its results

Dermatological facial cleansing leads to the following results.

  • Cleansed pores;
  • Leveled facial relief;
  • Narrowing of pores;
  • Removal of sebaceous plugs, milia, wen;
  • Exfoliated stratum corneum of skin;
  • Improved complexion;
  • Increased skin elasticity.

Advantages and disadvantages

AdvantagesFlaws

Possible complications

In my practice, unforeseen complications did not occur after a galvanic facial cleansing session, and yet the chance of their development cannot be completely excluded. Basically, problems arise if the patient concealed information about his health status, and the procedure was carried out contrary to contraindications.

Situations are also possible when the cosmetologist violated the technology, configured the device incorrectly and made mistakes during the session.

The most common complications include:

  • allergic reactions;
  • swelling and persistent redness;
  • the skin becomes dry, flaky and itchy;
  • if cleansing is done too often, excess sebum secretion may develop and the face will become oily;
  • after the session, an unpleasant metallic taste may be felt in the mouth for a long time;
  • dermatological diseases.

In most cases, these problems can be avoided if you trust a specialist with a good reputation and read the list of contraindications before the session.

How does the procedure work?

First, the cosmetologist examines the face and identifies problem areas. It is important to collect anamnesis to exclude possible contraindications.

For chronic diseases or serious pathologies, consultations with highly specialized specialists will be required.

Disincrustation is carried out only under normal health conditions. Procedure during the session:

  • Makeup removal.
  • Antiseptic treatment.
  • Electrode preparation, equipment setup.
  • Applying a special preparation to the face, which not only serves as a conductor of current, but also actively participates in exfoliation.
  • Turning on the device.
  • Treatment of the epidermis with a negative charge, then with a positive one (this polarity scheme allows you to normalize the acid balance of the dermis).
  • Gradual reduction in the intensity of electrical impulses to zero.
  • Removing solution residues.
  • Applying a nourishing mask.
  • Applying moisturizer.

The duration of the session is 20-40 minutes. The second one is performed no earlier than 30 days later. The general course is 4-5 exfoliations with a break of 1 month.

Buyanov Sergey Yurievich (Expert Doctor):

Disincrustation can be carried out not only on the face, but also in the décolleté, neck, arms and back.

Aftercare

After galvanic cleaning, cosmetologists recommend adhering to the following rules:

  • You cannot use any cosmetic products during the day;
  • for three days, avoid exposure to ultraviolet rays, chemicals, peelings on the skin, refuse to visit the bathhouse, sauna, solarium;
  • to maintain the results obtained, use masks with a natural composition based on natural ingredients: clay, plant extracts, essential oils, honey;
  • Apply moisturizer daily.

Methodology

Galvanotherapy is carried out without prior preparation. The session takes a maximum of half an hour and takes place in several stages. After it there is a short recovery period when the skin needs to be taken care of a little.

Overall, this is a gentle procedure, and you will not have to radically change your lifestyle for a long time after it.

Preparation

One of the advantages of galvanotherapy is that there is no need to prepare the skin for the session. The patient himself also should not deny himself anything - he does not need to hide from the sun a week before the procedure and can stick to his normal diet.

Before the procedure, I invite the client for a consultation, where I analyze his skin for signs of dermatic diseases and violations of the integrity of the skin. Then I conduct a short survey regarding his state of health. If no contraindications are found, you can proceed with the procedure.

Execution steps

  • First, I cleanse the patient's skin using a special gel.
  • Then I apply an even layer of alkaline product to my face.
  • Before I start processing, I check the machine settings. The polarity should be negative, and the current intensity regulator should be at zero.
  • Then I turn on the galvanic current and begin to move the electrode over the surface of the patient’s face. The purpose of this stage is to soften fat plugs and open pores. Treatment starts from the chin. At this point, you may experience a feeling of warmth, a slight tingling sensation and a metallic taste in the mouth. All of these are normal reactions, and I tell the client about them in advance so that he is prepared for this and does not worry.
  • I slowly increase the intensity of the current and reduce it if the patient begins to complain of discomfort.
  • Then, with smooth movements, I move further from the chin area, following the massage lines. I pay special attention to the T-zone and nasolabial folds, then move on to the neck area. Here you need to be especially careful and avoid the thyroid gland area.
  • Ten to fifteen minutes after the start of the session, a soapy substance forms on the skin, which I remove with a damp cloth or tonic. All excess sebum and “plugs” are saponified to a depth of 0.5 mm.
  • I then change the polarity of the electrode to positive and go over the client's face again. At the same time, the normal acid-base balance is restored, and the pores close. At this stage, according to indications, I use additional medications that have a healing effect on the skin. For example, zinc sulfate, which increases local immunity and disinfects, or trental - to improve microcirculation;

At the finish, I slowly reduce the intensity of the galvanic current and reduce it to zero, then cleanse the skin of any remaining product and apply a restorative mask. At the very end I apply a moisturizing and nourishing cream.

Skin care and recovery

Rehabilitation after a galvanic cleaning session is quite easy. But I do not recommend my clients to use decorative cosmetics for the first 12 hours after the procedure.

For the first three days, I do not recommend sunbathing, no matter on the beach or in a solarium, visiting a sauna or bathhouse, or exposing your skin to chemical influences, including using aggressive cleansing products.

To make regeneration go faster, you can use restorative masks based on clay and soft natural ingredients at this time and regularly apply a strong moisturizer to the skin.

Is it possible to do it at home and how?

Disincrustation can be carried out independently at home, but you must first purchase a special portable device from a medical equipment store.

The process is no different from that carried out in a cosmetologist’s office; it includes the following steps:

  • Cleansing the skin of cosmetics.
  • Applying a purchased conductor gel or soda solution.
  • Connecting the device.
  • Treatment of integument along massage lines on a negative charge.
  • Switching to positive polarity and re-passing across the surface of the dermis.
  • Washing off the remaining alkaline composition.
  • Apply a soothing mask and after 15 minutes a nourishing cream.

What is the difference between galvanization and microcurrent?

Modern cosmetology offers quite a few procedures based on the effect of electric current on the skin. In particular, galvanization is often compared to microcurrent therapy. The methods do have a lot in common, but they have several main differences:

  • during galvanization, unlike microcurrents, a cosmetic product is used;
  • microcurrent therapy provides a lifting effect that galvanization does not provide;
  • during galvanization, the skin is exposed to electric current; during microcurrent therapy, a weak pulse is applied, similar to the natural current of the human body;
  • galvanization starts processes at the cellular level;
  • microcurrents have a much more noticeable lymphatic drainage effect than galvanization;
  • the use of galvanic current in cosmetology is more diverse than microcurrents;
  • When galvanizing, a large area can be treated at once; small areas are treated with microcurrents.

Another difference is that microcurrents are considered a safer procedure.

Microcurrent therapy

Precautionary measures

It is not recommended to cleanse your face with electric current more than once a month. Abuse of sessions can lead to the development of complications:

  • severe redness of the skin;
  • swelling;
  • increased dryness, flaking
  • itching;
  • dysfunction of the sebaceous glands;
  • the appearance of a metallic taste in the mouth;
  • development of an allergic reaction;
  • skin pathologies.

Another important point that should be taken into account before performing the procedure yourself at home or in a cosmetologist’s office is the presence of contraindications to it.

Disincrustation cannot be used in the following cases:

  • use of a pacemaker;
  • increased skin sensitivity;
  • damage to the surface of the dermis (wounds, abrasions, inflammation, ulcers);
  • dermatitis, eczema;
  • heat;
  • hypertension;
  • diseases of the cardiovascular system;
  • blood clotting disorder;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • mental disorders;
  • malignant processes in the body;
  • pregnancy, lactation, menstruation;
  • individual intolerance to electric current or solution components.

Popular devices

There is a wide range of disincrustation equipment on the market. Let's look at the most popular offers.

Facial device Galvanic SPA Beauty Lifting from Gezatone (France) - intended for professional and home use. In the company's online store it costs 3290 rubles. It has two operating modes: positive and negative ionization. It has an ergonomic design and fits comfortably in a woman's hand.

The impact is carried out through an active electrode-roller. Alternating programs provides a lifting effect, stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin, and helps smooth out wrinkles.

To better conduct electrical impulses into the epidermis, it is recommended to use water-based solutions and gels that do not contain alcohol and oils. However, the best option is cosmetics with their own charge. They are better absorbed by cells during the procedure and increase its effectiveness. Such drugs can be found in the Gezatone catalog.

Nevoton AK-201 electrical stimulator - developed by a Russian company for the production of medical equipment, passed multi-stage clinical trials, registered with the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (the only one of all offered on the domestic market).

The device can be used in beauty salons and at home for galvanic facial cleansing, iontophoresis, and lifting. Convenient and safe to use. The result is noticeable after the first procedure. You can purchase the device on the manufacturer’s official website for 3,500 rubles. Delivery is carried out in all regions. The branded trade and exhibition hall “Equipment for Life” operates in St. Petersburg.

BC-12 “Golden Spoon” (Taiwan) is a portable galvanotherapy device. The action is based on a combination of direct and pulsed currents of alternating polarity, supplemented by infrared radiation.

The device is recommended for home facial skin care. Equipped with four functions: Cleansing (cleansing the dermis), Motion (increasing tone), NutrientElectrophoresis (nutrition and hydration), Lifting (stimulating the synthesis of collagen and elastin). You can buy an electrical stimulator in specialized online stores selling medical equipment. The average price is 4,500 rubles.

Galvanic cleaning: what is it?

The procedure uses a special apparatus, the operation of which is based on the production of galvanic current. With its help, electrophoresis is activated. This is a process in which electricity is the driving force behind dispersed particles.

If you bring a negatively charged electrode close to the skin, it will begin to attract positively charged ions. Under the influence of current, they become active atoms, lowering the pH of the skin, alkalizing it.

The procedure uses a special solution. Most often we are talking about 5% sodium chloride, 1% sodium bicarbonate or 2% sodium salicylate. When the environment in the pores changes, saponification of the triglycerides that make up sebum occurs. Sebaceous plugs come to the surface and are removed manually by a cosmetologist. Under the influence of acidic electrolysis products, the bonds between the cells of the stratum corneum are destroyed, promoting their exfoliation.

What is microcurrent therapy and how it works

The essence of microcurrent facial therapy is the slight influence of electricity on the epidermis from the inside, provoking an increase in the amount of chemicals at the cellular level. Clinical analysis data show that after completing the full course of procedures, collagen production increases by 16%, blood circulation increases by 41%, and elastin increases by 52%. European experts claim that when microcurrents are used for the purpose of face lifting, the body begins to produce additional amino acids, and they, in turn, affect the acceleration of the cellular restoration process.

Simply put, you can now make your face look younger without resorting to plastic surgery. Another pleasant fact is that the effects of microcurrent facial therapy appear immediately after the first procedure.

Microcurrents affect the epidermis from several sides at once. With the help of cell activation, cell division occurs much faster. The result of this is accelerated skin renewal. To make it clearer, the old layer of skin is replaced by a new one. Stimulation of capillaries and blood vessels occurs, increasing blood circulation and accelerating lymphatic movement. As a result, the face is saturated with oxygen. In addition, treatment leads to the resorption of many stagnant processes in the epidermis. The effectiveness of using the cream increases, the procedure promotes better absorption of its components. Microcurrent therapy serves as an energy boost for the face.

How to use a galvanic facial device at home?

Portable galvanic facial equipment is readily available in the market, along with special facial gels.

Get them and then follow these steps:

  • Clean your face and neck thoroughly with a cleanser you have at home. Pat dry and spritz with your favorite toner.
  • Apply the healing gel (as directed in the kit) to one half of the face and neck. Set a timer (in case your machine doesn't have a timer).
  • Wet your hands and then hold the device. Once you press the start button, touch the end of the machine to the skin where you applied the gel and move it.
  • Stop when the timer goes off. Repeat the same steps on the other side of your face and neck.
  • After this, remove the remaining gel from your face with a damp cloth or towel. Apply facial serum or moisturizer once you're done.

Note: If the gel dries out during the procedure, apply a little water and continue. Also, make sure the current flow is consistent.

It is always better to consult a professional cosmetologist for proper galvanic facial treatment. Some spas offer this service. The benefits of this service are innumerable, as long as you remember the words of caution. So, say goodbye to dull and lifeless skin and hello to the new you with a galvanized face.

Is skin care necessary after electroplating?

The first few days after galvanic cleansing, the sensitivity of the skin increases, so in order to avoid negative consequences, you should not use skincare and decorative cosmetics for the first day. For the next 3-4 days after the procedure, you must follow some recommendations:

  • give up aggressive cosmetics (scrubs, acid peels);
  • protect your skin from ultraviolet radiation (do not sunbathe, do not visit a solarium, use sunscreen);
  • do not go to the bathhouse, sauna, swimming pool.

Should you give up scrubs?

Skin care during this period consists of regularly applying a moisturizer. In addition, you can use restorative and moisturizing masks. It is advisable to coordinate the use of all cosmetics with a cosmetologist.

Side effects of microcurrent facial therapy

If the patient has no restrictions on the procedure, there is no risk of complications. If pain occurs during the session, ask the specialist to reduce the force of action.

It is important to remember: under no circumstances should the electrode be placed in the projection of the heart, eyes and cervical vessels.
