Causes of bruises after contouring
A hematoma (bruise) is an accumulation of coagulated or liquid blood in a confined space when large and small vessels are damaged. Lips are one of the most sensitive parts of the body. They are densely permeated with capillaries and larger vessels, which are damaged during injections. At the same time, the body also reacts to the ingress of a foreign body - a thick filler. Together, this causes minor swelling and bruising, which is normal.
Since lip injections are quite painful, anesthetics are used when performing them. They can also cause noticeable bruising. There are several types of anesthetics used, but almost all of them promote vasodilation. When the filler is injected, pressure is created, which can cause blood vessels to burst. The risk of hematomas is much higher when using injection anesthesia.
The resulting bruises go away on their own after some time, but if the wound gets infected, the situation may worsen. If they last for several days and only become darker, then you should consult a doctor. At the site of a small bruise, a hematoma may form, and then tissue inflammation.
Contraindications to contouring with fillers are blood diseases, in particular low blood clotting rates, taking blood-thinning drugs, alcohol consumption, menstruation in women, diabetes mellitus, some types of autoimmune and other diseases. If for some reason these prohibitions were violated and injections were performed, then we should expect the appearance of large hematomas, which take a long time to subside and can cause more serious complications.
And, of course, hematomas can occur as a result of incorrect injections, the introduction of too much filler, or due to violation of the rules of the rehabilitation period. To avoid this, it is important to choose a specialized clinic and a professional cosmetologist. And, of course, following all the recommendations regarding preparation for plastic surgery and the period after it will help minimize the risk of not only bruising, but also other complications.
If fillers, what kind?
Preparations for the periorbital area should only be based on hyaluronic acid . No collagens, calcium hydroxyapatites or other fillers. There are too many reasons, just believe me!
Swelling and medications used
The main “subtlety” of correcting the area under the eyes is that the chosen drug should not cause swelling . Edema ranks first on the list of undesirable consequences of correction.
Hyaluronic acid (the basis of all preparations for this area) attracts water - everyone knows this.
If the filler is “loose”, with poor cohesiveness and elasticity (not able to maintain its shape, subject to migration and separation), there is a high probability of swelling after its injection. It is optimal to use a drug specially created for this area!
According to reviews, drugs from the Yvoire line suffer from this side effect. There is a lot of negativity about Korean and Israeli fillers that are unverified and do not have a registration certificate in the Russian Federation.
Heavy and viscous preparations used for cheekbone enlargement and contouring are also not very good for the eye area - they have the opposite effect: after injection they lie in a dense layer and actively aggregate water.
Special preparations for the area under the eyes
Of all the manufacturers, we trust the beauty of our patients’ eyes to the drug from the German company Merz - Belotero Balance. Let's explain why:
- The Belotero line of drugs is the most modern. Some cosmetologists call it “premium”: it contains 4 preparations, each with its own characteristics and specially selected properties for different areas.
- Belotero Balance is created specifically for the eye area, does not cause swelling (with the correct injection technique), its characteristics (viscosity, plasticity, density, cohesiveness) guarantee soft distribution in the injection area and the absence of migration and “clumping”.
- Thanks to a special production technology (DCLT + KPM), a guaranteed duration of effect and a stable position of the drug are achieved!
Juvederm Volbella – classic correction of the under-eye area
From the Juvederm family, the best option for correcting under eye circles is Juvederm Volbella. It is designed to treat areas with delicate and sensitive skin. Consists of hyaluronic acid, phosphate buffer and local anesthetic.
Juvederm Volbella has a plastic and pliable structure, which allows it to be evenly distributed even under thin skin. With its help, you can also smooth out wrinkles around the eyes, level out small bags, and lighten dark circles.
We used this drug in our practice until a new generation drug appeared:
Belotero Balance – proven filler
Belotero Balance is the most versatile filler from the Belotero line. It was created relatively recently and specifically for this area and its use in other areas is not justified (there are other gels from the Beloteo line). Our clinic’s technique is deep injection of the drug through a zygomatic puncture to level the relief of the lower eyelid area.
Unlike Juvederm Volbella, we did not experience any swelling after administering this drug to our patients!
The gel contains 22.5 mg/ml of the main component – hyaluronic acid. Due to its homogeneous consistency, this monophasic polycompacted gel is evenly distributed in tissues.
- absence of allergic and inflammatory reactions as a result of innovative cleaning technology;
- is distributed evenly and gently in the dermis, so the effect is as natural as possible;
- easily tolerated even with hypersensitivity of the skin, there is no sensation of a foreign body in the tissues;
- thanks to lidocaine, pain is minimized;
- the result is visible from the first days and lasts up to 1 year;
- low likelihood of swelling, redness, allergies and other undesirable consequences.
Teosyal Redensity II is an excellent choice
Swiss Teosyal is another brand familiar to many cosmetologist clients. Like Surgiderm, it has a whole line of “highly specialized” fillers. One of them, Teosyal Puresense RedensityII, is used specifically for contouring the area around the eyes.
His tasks:
- Lightening dark circles;
- Filling the nasolacrimal groove;
- Smoothing wrinkles in the outer corners of the eyes;
- Light tightening of pasty eyelid skin.
Teosyal Redensity II contains, as usual, hyaluronic acid, as well as amino acids, antioxidants, minerals (zinc and copper) and vitamin B6.
Teosyal Redensity II eliminates dark circles under the eyes thanks to global restructuring of the dermis, which is indicated for anyone who is faced with an “acquired” deficiency of the soft tissues of the face.
Sculptra is an interesting new product
Many historians write that the Sculptra filler is an updated drug NewFill, but Sculptra is a completely new drug, and it was registered for use in the Russian Federation not so long ago.
Typically, this drug is used for classic contouring - replenishing the volume of cheekbones, chin, etc. Perhaps it is the densest of those presented, and therefore, it can cope even with advanced age-related changes. Sculptra consists of polylactic acid and auxiliary components, and, unlike its analogues, it works for a record long time - up to 25 months.
Some cosmetologists claim that it is “too heavy” for the eyelid area, and in general, their opinion is justified.
Only a very experienced cosmetologist can work with such a filler when correcting dark circles under the eyes. Dosage, technology and injection site (possibly dilution), instrument - all this must be at the highest level for the process to go smoothly and effectively.
Results after injection of this drug into the area under the eyes usually last up to 12-14 months.
Meso Eye C17 – not quite a filler
MesoEyeC17 (“Mesoeye”) is a relative novelty from the American cosmeceutical of the already well-known drugs Meso-Wharton and Meso-Xanthin.
In fact, this drug is not a filler - it is a biorevitalizant, but, according to the manufacturer, it is ideal for the eye area!
The drug has three main actions:
- Moisturizing and nourishing;
- Revitalizing;
- Lymphatic drainage.
The use of this drug is possible using the technique of direct papular injections into the area under the eyes; after the injection, traces remain - “papules”. It is for this reason that in our clinic we use this meso-biorevitalizant only in the complex treatment of the problem of circles under the eyes.
The main advantage of the drug is that it quickly and effectively normalizes the activity of the structures of the circulatory and lymphatic systems concentrated in the eyelid area. This is what the emphasis is on in the fight against dark circles.
Toning the lymphatic vessels is the key merit of MesoEyeC17. Therefore, the main indication for its use is that same “cyanosis” around the eyes. By the way, it is successfully used in rehabilitation after blepharoplasty to quickly neutralize hematomas.
Hexapeptide 17, a substance that appeared in cosmetology with this filler in 2021, is responsible for stimulating lymph flow and lymphatic drainage in MesoEyeC17. Its action is organically complemented by another innovation - periorbital peptide XP2, which relieves vascular spasm and protects collagen from breakdown. And the benefits of the tandem are enhanced by hyaluronic acid, amino acids and vitamins.
Surgiderm 18 was a good drug
Surgiderm filler has become a household name in cosmetology. It is used for fundamentally different purposes - it all depends on the number of the specific drug. All drugs in the line are marked with numbers in ascending order. For the eyelid area, Surgiderm 18 is optimal - the youngest.
UPD 2021: However, there is one “BUT” - this drug has been discontinued and if you are offered Surgiderm 18 after the beginning of 2021, you should know that these are either old stocks (in what conditions were they stored?) or a fake!
In general, the drug was good - Surgiderm 18 is not viscous, but not liquid, which allows it to efficiently cope with various problems in the eye area. And although its composition is not as rich and unique as its competitors, it effectively fights the first signs of aging in the eyelid area - mild bruises, crow's feet, dry skin.
Our practice has shown that the 5 fillers given in the article really work. Otherwise, we recommend that you leave the choice of specific methods and means for correcting dark circles under the eyes to a professional.
How quickly do hematomas go away?
Bruises after lip contouring, if no complications arise, go away on their own in a few days or a week. On days 2–3 they lighten, then turn yellow and disappear. But it is worth considering that each organism is individual. Therefore, the intensity of bruises and the time they disappear may also be different. You can verify this if you read reviews on specialized forums and look at photos and videos of users who have undergone the procedure.
Ice compresses will help quickly get rid of small bruises. To do this, you can freeze a decoction of medicinal herbs with anti-inflammatory properties (chamomile, calendula). Cold promotes blood flow and reduces swelling. You can also use pharmaceutical products, but only on the recommendation of a doctor. Acupressure and other types of massage should also not be carried out independently, especially in the first days - you can move the fillers and ruin the created lip contour.
Indications for use
- pronounced nasolacrimal grooves;
- dark circles, bags under the eyes;
- thin skin;
- wrinkles;
- spider veins;
- pigmentation;
- swelling.
The benefit of hyalurnic acid eye fillers is the improvement of skin quality. Being a natural substance, hyaluronic acid improves oxygen supply to cells. Thanks to the normalization of metabolism and blood circulation, the color of the epidermis improves, imperfections disappear, the skin is rejuvenated and tightened.
Result after using hyaluronic fillers
- even out skin color;
- eliminating bags under the eyes;
- the look ceases to be tired;
- “dips” are compensated - lack of volume in the lower eyelids;
- small wrinkles are smoothed out;
- Vascular and pigment spots lighten.
Please note - hyaluronic acid fillers are not a panacea for expression lines. If your problem is primarily crow's feet, you are advised to inject botulinum toxin drugs - Botox or Dysport.
