Plasmolifting is an injection procedure to rejuvenate and improve the condition of facial skin, offered in cosmetology clinics. Platelet-rich blood plasma is used as an injection. The method for obtaining and using plasma was developed in the USA in 1975.
Initially, plasma was used only for the speedy healing of tissues after operations. Now everyone is trying to use platelet-rich plasma in new qualities (including for rejuvenating facial skin, as well as stimulating hair growth).
Plasmolifting: photo
For certain reasons (we will discuss them below), platelet-rich plasma is usually only used in conjunction with other rejuvenation methods. You will not be able to find real photos of patients on the Internet before and after the plasma lifting procedure for one simple reason - after plasma lifting alone, you simply will not be able to see any change in the condition of the skin or hair.
In all patients in whom visual changes are visible, in fact, either a fractional type laser, or fillers, or chemical serums were used in parallel to stimulate hair growth... If you see photographs somewhere and they tell you that such dramatic changes are only from one plasma lifting - Know right away that you are being deceived. Below you can see photos of such patients.
What is cold plasma in cosmetology
Cold plasma is a non-invasive method of aesthetic cosmetology. Plasma energy affects the epidermis. For this purpose, special devices are used, such as Plasmajet derma, Monster liner, etc.
During operation, the device emits argon plasma, which is formed as a result of heating argon on the nozzle. Elevated temperature promotes the ionization of the molecule of a gaseous substance. Ions are able to penetrate deep into the epidermis without damaging the tissue. After the procedure, the skin noticeably looks younger and becomes more elastic. And this is after the first procedure.

Externally, the cold plasma device resembles a writing pen.
What is Plasma Pen?
Plasma Pen (Plasma Pencil, Plasma Liner) is a small device that fits in your hand. It looks like a pen, marker or epilator with a needle at the end. The shape depends on the imagination of the designers.
The plasma pen, according to sellers, is an innovative development of a Korean company, which:
- allows you to perform a non-surgical blepharoplasty procedure (tightening the eyelid skin without surgery);
- correct wrinkles, stretch marks, acne marks;
- remove age spots;
- get rid of spider veins in just 1 procedure;
- remove tumors and even tattoos!
Plasma methods
With the help of cold plasma you can get rid of many problems associated with skin changes. These are wrinkles, age spots, etc. The effect is achieved through cell regeneration under the influence of heat from plasma.
The procedure involves short-term exposure of the skin to plasma in the form of millisecond pulses. A special device is filled with nitrogen. Under the influence of electric current, it forms plasma between the skin and the device. In addition, the impact is non-contact. These circumstances minimize the risk of burns. The size of the treated area and the depth of penetration of heat from the plasma deep into the epidermis are regulated by the device.
There are two main methods of rejuvenation using plasma:
- By setting the “low” energy function on the device, you can achieve slight skin lightening, elimination of fine wrinkles and a light peeling effect.
- By setting the energy to “high”, you can get rid of stretch marks and scars, deep wrinkles and achieve the effect of a circular facelift.
Plasmolifting of the face –
Doctors try not to perform plasma lifting without other parallel procedures for facial rejuvenation. Why this happens - you can read in our article just below, and this information will be very interesting for you. Most often, plasma lifting is carried out in combination with the following rejuvenating procedures...
- Plasmolifting + fillers based on hyaluronic acid (Fig. 10-11) - many cosmetologists note that the best effect is achieved by combining plasma with facial fillers. This combination provides increased volume in problem areas, lifting facial contours, reducing wrinkles and folds, and also provides skin radiance, improves its tone and structure.
It is believed that plasma lifting in combination with fillers prolongs the effect of fillers for 3-6 months, compared to the effect of fillers without plasma. However, as we will see below, this is a completely unproven statement that apparently serves only one purpose: to get the patient to buy both procedures.Plasmolifting of the face: before and after photos
- Plasmolifting + laser facial treatments (Fig. 12) – Facial treatments using fractional laser are known for their ability to improve skin texture. Adding enriched plasma injections to this procedure allows for more significant results by accelerating healing and increasing the amount of newly formed collagen.
In our opinion, this is a really good combination. But you must understand that the combination of these two methods will first of all give a good effect, aimed specifically at improving the appearance and elasticity of the skin. The depth of the wrinkles will decrease slightly, but they will not disappear at all. But the combination with fillers, on the contrary, is less aimed at improving the texture of the skin, but perfectly smoothes out any wrinkles.
Patients who do not want to use any fillers can undergo the plasma lifting procedure separately from other methods. In this case, it will simply be something like mesotherapy (biorevitalization). And although the results of such a procedure will be much worse than when combining plasma lifting with fillers or laser, you can still get some improvement in skin texture.
Reviews
Before carrying out the procedure, it is advisable to find out reviews about it. Here is what patients who have undergone cold plasma sessions write:
Diana
Kaliningrad
“At the end of summer, after a trip to hot countries on vacation, I discovered an unpleasant acne rash on my face. I started using creams and lotions to eliminate it, but the acne only got bigger. On the advice of a friend, I made an appointment with a cosmetologist, who performed two cold plasma procedures, after which the problem was eliminated. When exposed to the device, I felt warmth, there was no pain.”

“Age changes make themselves felt. In addition to aging skin, my skin was heavily pigmented in some places. Having undergone plasma lifting, I was able to not only restore the skin, but also get rid of the old tattoo. The procedure produces results, but is not cheap.”
Alyona
Rostov-on-Don:
“With age, the skin became less elastic, and pronounced wrinkles appeared around the eyes. Lifting creams and various serums did not give the desired effect. And then I asked my husband to give me a certificate to visit a cosmetologist. After the second session of plasma rejuvenation, I saw the result; to consolidate it, the cosmetologist advised me to carry out another procedure. Now my skin is tightened, wrinkles have disappeared, my complexion has improved.”

“I was treated with cold plasma after plastic surgery to treat my stitches. The method is effective, since now I don’t have a single scar, despite the fact that the surgery was serious.”
Alla

“I have undergone several plasma rejuvenation procedures. The result is a tightened face and fresh skin color. I’m very pleased, the doctor said that the effect will last for about 2 years.”
Plasmolifting for hair –
Very often, in case of severe hair loss and to strengthen it, platelet-rich plasma from the patient himself is used, which is injected into the scalp. Plasmolifting for hair has mostly positive reviews, but again only when platelet-rich plasma is used in combination with various hair growth-stimulating drugs, such as Propecia or Minoxidil (Fig. 14-15).
Naturally, it is the serum that has the main effect here, and not plasma lifting. And besides, the effect of the serum will only be temporary (during its use). And in principle, it’s very clear why doctors recommend doing plasma lifting for hair only together with serum... Because you won’t notice any effect without serum.
Plasmolifting of the scalp makes sense (in our opinion) only after a hair transplant, because in this case, it can be assumed that there is an improvement in the survival rate of implanted hair follicles. However, and these are just guesses, because... There are no clinical studies on this topic at all.
In any case, before agreeing to such a procedure, we would recommend that you first try such a proven method as the Darsonval physiotherapeutic procedure. The device can be purchased on the Internet. A 20-day course of using Darsonval can significantly accelerate hair growth, as well as activate dormant hair follicles.
Side effects
Side effects from argon plasma are usually not observed. An exception may be a violation in the implementation of the rejuvenation technique.
In this case, the following formations may appear on the skin as adverse reactions:
- tubercles;
- foci of increased pigmentation;
- bruises.
Therefore, trust your skin only to experienced and qualified specialists.

What is the difference between cold plasma and laser treatments and injections for rejuvenation?
To make it more clear what the differences are between these three procedures, study the table presented.
Distinctive points | Cold plasma | Laser exposure | Anti-aging injections |
How is the effect achieved? | The upper layers of the dermis are heated, which promotes regeneration processes and the production of natural collagen | Using a laser beam, the upper layers of the epidermis are evaporated, resulting in the same effect | Various cosmetic and medicinal compounds are introduced under the skin, leading to rejuvenation. |
Danger of infection | Absent | Minimal, if hygiene measures are not observed | There is a risk when inserting a needle under the skin |
Skin changes after the procedure | Possibility of slight redness | Swelling and redness, subsequently forming a crust | Point hematomas and hemorrhages at the site of needle penetration |
Rehabilitation period | 5-7 days | About 6 weeks | From 3 to 14 days |
Result | Keeps for a long time, up to 1-2 years | Skin stays young for up to 1 year | The effect lasts up to 8 months |
Peculiarities | Has a disinfecting effect | Do not apply around the eyes | Risk of developing an allergic reaction to the composition |
Plasmolifting: technique
The essence of the procedure is that the patient’s own blood is taken and passed through a special apparatus (centrifuge). As a result of centrifugation, plasma with platelets is separated from red blood cells. The output is concentrated patient plasma enriched with platelets and fibrin.
This plasma can be injected into the patient’s facial skin, and there can be practically no side effects, since such plasma is a very pure substance consisting of a particular person’s own cells. Therefore, there is absolutely no risk of rejection, infection or allergic reactions.
How the plasma lifting procedure is performed – the procedure itself takes about 20 minutes. Blood is taken from a patient’s vein (Fig. 6), which rotates in a centrifuge for 6 minutes (Fig. 7). As a result of rotation, the blood breaks up into several fractions, i.e. plasma with platelets and fibrin is separated from red blood cells. This platelet-rich plasma is then administered by intradermal injection (Fig. 9). According to the developer of the method: results appear within 3-5 weeks, and the full effect is achieved in 4-7 weeks and lasts up to 18 months.
How is the effect of plasma lifting achieved?
The key to success is to trick the cells into thinking they are damaged. Platelet-rich plasma injected into the skin causes the body to think that an injury has occurred at the injection site and the body begins to create fibrin networks (chains) in these areas. These fibrin networks activate skin cell growth factors, which leads to stimulation of fibroblast (cells that produce collagen) function.
That is, in theory, we get: healthy skin appearance, thickening of the dermis (and ultimately reduction of wrinkles), improved skin tone, faster recovery after any invasive procedures. However, when theory collides with practice, the reviews may be less rosy than the developers of the method tell us. Reviews from patients and results of clinical studies will be given below.
Prices for the procedure
The price of the procedure is set depending on the area and area of influence, as well as on the achievement of the final goal:
- to eliminate herpes - about 1000 rubles;
- to combat fungus - within 1500 rubles;
- elimination of skin rashes – from 2000 rubles;
- for skin rejuvenation – within 6,000 rubles;
- to remove tattoos and moles - about 1000 rubles.
Cost of procedures in clinics in Moscow, St. Petersburg

Cold plasma allows for rejuvenation of the epidermis and, due to its antiseptic properties, is used to eliminate pathogenic microorganisms on the skin (fungus, bacteria or viruses). The result is noticeable 10-14 days after the first session and intensifies over 4 months. Due to its versatility, it is used in medicine and cosmetology.
How to make cold plasma for the face
The procedure includes the following steps:
- First, the plasma application area is cleaned with antiseptic agents.
- If the client wishes, an anesthetic gel is applied to the skin.
- In the device settings, the required current pulses are set.
- The tip is disinfected.
- A targeted effect is applied to the problem area.
- Finally, an antiseptic and moisturizing or nourishing cream are again applied to the skin.

Biomedical effects of plasma
Cold plasma is used in cosmetology to restore the condition of the skin (rejuvenation, removal of scars, acne).
Thanks to ionization and thermal radiation, plasma has the following therapeutic properties:
- antiseptic. Ionized gas is capable of destroying microorganisms resistant to potent antibiotics. The property is used to disinfect problematic or infected skin (bacteria, fungus, ulcers);
- Cell regeneration is activated , as a result the skin restoration process is accelerated. This action is used not only for the purpose of rejuvenation, but also to accelerate the healing process of wounds;
- collagen production improves. As a result, the skin regains elasticity and firmness, wrinkles are reduced;
- eliminates scars and age spots thanks to accelerated cell renewal;
- The activity of the sebaceous glands is normalized , resulting in a decrease in the number of acne lesions.
During the action of plasma on the skin, the epidermis is heated, as a result the fat layer is reduced, and the removal of excess fluid from the treated area is accelerated.
This promotes restoration (natural regeneration) of the skin.
