Migraine is the most mysterious and still poorly explained disease from a scientific point of view.
Doctors all over the world are trying to unravel its phenomenon, but so far they are only halfway there. But today there are effective ways to relieve migraine symptoms for quite a long time.
For those who know migraine too well, it is absolutely obvious that this disease can hardly be called fatal, but the fact that it significantly impairs the quality of life is an indisputable fact. It is no coincidence that the WHO (World Health Organization) included migraine in the top 20 most maladaptive diseases. “Sudden throbbing pain, most often in one side of the head; it is often accompanied by nausea, often vomiting, intolerance to bright light, or certain odors; a person feels the desire to lie quietly away from the light - all these are typical manifestations of migraine,” says Robert Young, professor of medicine, leading family physician, pediatrician at the GMS Clinic. Migraine attacks are familiar to approximately 10% of people. Moreover, men suffer from migraines no less than women. Alice syndrome
“Specialists distinguish between several types of migraines,” says Dr. Young. — Classic migraine with aura is the most easily diagnosed; you don’t even need any tests to recognize it. Before an attack, strange sensations occur: usually these are bright flashes of light or colored spots in the eyes, altered smells and taste. People experience different sensations, but they have one thing in common: having arisen once, they are repeated the same way every time. Some people with an aura experience the so-called “Alice syndrome”: weakness, numbness appear, unusual hallucinations occur - surrounding objects begin to change in size (lengthen or shorten), change colors.
Migraine without aura is the most common form of the disease; it is familiar to 80% of patients. It has the same features as the classic one and can be as painful as a migraine with aura, but there are no accompanying “aura” effects. As a rule, migraine appears in adolescence, sometimes even at the age of 7-8 years, and accompanies some people throughout their lives. Some people experience pain only once or twice a year, but for many people the pain comes much more often. But if attacks become constant (15 days a month or more often), severe, and medications do not relieve pain, doctors talk about chronic migraine.”
