Facial contouring procedures (lips, nasolabial folds and cheekbones)

Facial contouring is one of the effective methods that allows you to remove nasolabial folds. During the procedure, a gel is injected under the skin, which fills wrinkles and smoothes the skin texture. Sometimes it is enough to remove nasolabial wrinkles to make your face look younger. To correct nasolabial folds, preparations based on hyaluronic acid of non-animal origin are used, which ensures good biological compatibility with the patient’s tissues. This group of drugs is extremely popular among patients and deserved recognition from doctors.

Restylane, Juvederm, Surgiderm, Teosyal, Belotero to correct nasolabial wrinkles . All of them have the necessary quality and safety certificates. Despite the fact that these drugs are based on hyaluronic acid, there are some differences in their use. After correction, nasolabial folds disappear for up to a year.

Nasolabial folds can be quite pronounced even in young people due to their constitutional characteristics, active articulation (artists, announcers) or due to malocclusion that was not corrected at the time. Nasolabial folds become more pronounced when you lose weight and smooth out when you gain weight.

Indications for correction of nasolabial folds with fillers

The process of folding can begin as early as 25 years of age. But in youth they are not so noticeable due to the natural elasticity and moisture of the skin. With age, the level of hydration in epidermal cells decreases. The skin becomes thinner and drier, and creases become deeper and clearer.

The formation of unaesthetic grooves in the nasolabial area occurs differently in all people. They can get worse not only due to age. Sometimes pronounced wrinkles in the nose and lips are formed as a result of:

  • smoking;
  • bite defects;
  • features of facial expressions;
  • excess fatty tissue on the face;
  • genetic characteristics.

Contour plastic surgery of the nasolabial area allows you to smooth out the grooves that visually age the face. In addition, as a result of the procedure, the corners of the lips are raised, the skin in this area becomes more elastic, and the contours of the face become clearer.

Why do nasolabial folds appear?

Dermatologists explain the appearance of defects:

  • anatomical features. Starting from the structure of the facial part of the skull and ending with the degree of development of the facial muscles and subcutaneous tissue. Alas, with an asthenic constitution, there is a high chance of encountering nasolabial wrinkles at an early age;
  • natural age-related skin changes. They partly have a genetic predisposition, but also depend on the person's lifestyle. Over time (on average, after 25 years), the synthesis of elastin and collagen decreases, and the content of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases. Therefore, wrinkles quickly begin to form in areas on the face with active facial expressions;
  • feature of the nervous system. Very emotional people have more active and intense facial expressions. This means that the chances of getting pronounced nasolabial wrinkles after 25 years are higher than for phlegmatic people;
  • sudden weight gain and then loss. This is a test for the muscles and skin of the face. Therefore, during a period of sudden weight loss, visit a cosmetologist;
  • malocclusion. It provokes an uneven load on the jaw and facial muscles. As a result, wrinkles around the mouth form faster;
  • smoking. Several factors are to blame here. Firstly, smokers often stretch their lips with a pipe, which provokes the formation of purse-string wrinkles around the mouth. Secondly, hot smoke and nicotine dry out the skin, stimulating loss of tone earlier than expected.

If it is possible to change your lifestyle and give up bad habits within your power, then we cannot change genetics. Then an arsenal of cosmetic procedures comes to the rescue.

Contraindications

During the consultation, the clinic specialist must identify any contraindications to the procedure in patients. Restrictions can be divided into absolute and temporary.

Absolute, that is, excluding the procedure, include:

  • allergies to drugs contained in fillers or anesthetics. Individual intolerance is a rare case, but it cannot be excluded;
  • bleeding disorders;
  • diabetes;
  • predisposition to the formation of hypertrophic and keloid scars;
  • oncological diseases;
  • any decompensated chronic diseases.

Temporary contraindications are:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • period of exacerbation of any infectious disease;
  • dermatitis;
  • taking anticoagulants;
  • febrile conditions.

Also, fillers should not be injected into the nasolabial folds for a month after deep facial cleansing.

Types of fillers for contouring

Drugs used to correct nasolabial folds can be divided into 4 subgroups:

  • Based on hyaluronic acid . These are the most popular fillers used in cosmetology today. Injections with hyaluronic acid are made using such well-known drugs as Restylane (Restylane), Belotero (Boletro), Teosyal (Teosyal), etc. Once in the skin, they fill the space between the collagen fibers, smooth the epidermis and retain moisture in it. The body responds well to hyaluronic acid. Allergies and complications are rare. The only negative is the short-term results. You can remove nasolabial folds with hyaluronic acid for six months, maximum for a year.
  • Based on poly-L-lactic acid . For example, this is the drug AestheFill (Estefil). The effect of such drugs lasts 2-3 years. They have proven their effectiveness and safety. The only drawback is the price.
  • Based on potassium hydroxyapatite . This is a substance that is part of bone tissue. For contouring, it is usually artificially synthesized to reduce the risk of complications. An example of such fillers is Radiesse. The effect of using drugs based on potassium hydroxyapatite lasts from 1 to 1.5 years.
  • Based on polycaprolactone . This biodegradable polyester stimulates the regeneration of fibrous tissue. Fillers based on polycaprolactone are modern and patient-friendly preparations with a prolonged action. The effect of their use lasts for an average of 36 months. In this group we can mention Ellanse.

Radiesse: prolonged effect

The problem of short-term action can be partially solved by using more modern drugs to smooth out nasolabial folds. One of these is Radiesse, a dermal filler with calcium hydroxyapatite. Like hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite is absolutely safe in immunological and biological terms. But it has an advantage - the result lasts up to 18 months.

The peculiarity of Radiesse is that it has a high viscosity. For this reason, cosmetologists do not use it to correct wrinkles around the eyes, and for the same reason it is excellent for smoothing nasolabial folds.

How is nasolabial folds corrected with fillers?

Contour plastic surgery is an injection into the nasolabial folds, which is carried out with thin needles.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. The cosmetologist examines and interviews the patient to identify contraindications, selects the drug and determines its dosage.
  2. The facial skin is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected at the injection site.
  3. Before the fillers are injected, a painkiller is applied to the skin.
  4. After 15-20 minutes, when the anesthetic has taken effect, injections can be given. Injections are made not only into the fold, but also into the surrounding areas. This stage takes no more than 10 minutes.
  5. The specialist completes the procedure with a light massage so that the gel is evenly distributed over the corrected area.

Usually, the result of correction of nasolabial folds with fillers is visible the next day, when the swelling subsides. However, the maximum effect can be assessed after 1-2 weeks.

Thank you very much, Valery Grigorievich! I am so glad that I chose you for my surgery. I look 20-25 years younger now (at 59). I myself did not expect to see such a young face. I am very happy. My husband is surprised that this could happen. He also really likes the result. Many thanks to everyone who helped you - Tatyana Alexandrovna and Anna Sergeevna. Many thanks to the anesthesiologists and nurses. The operation and recovery from anesthesia were very easy for me. Thanks to Alexandra, she has always been and remains in touch. For those visiting the site and reading this review, I can add that the intervention was extensive: forehead endoscopy, SMAS, platysmaplasty and lower blepharoplasty. All this was done in 1 time - clearly, quickly, professionally. Therefore, there were no blue-black bruises at all. On the 3rd day, pale yellow bruises appeared under the eyes (already passing). There was no severe swelling. A week later, I calmly (wearing dark glasses) went out into the street. By now, 2 weeks have passed since the operation. The scarring process is completely painless, it is not visible from the outside. There remains a slight numbness of the chin, neck and forehead. But gradually sensitivity returns. You can feel it too. In general, the rehabilitation process is easy to bear, especially with such an emotional high from SUCH a stunning result. I don’t even want to wear makeup))

Recovery

Correction of nasolabial folds with hyaluronic acid is usually well tolerated by patients. If you feel normal, you can leave the clinic immediately after the session. In case of any unusual situations - for example, allergies, a specialist will provide emergency assistance.

During the recovery period, papules, redness, swelling, and loss of sensitivity may appear at the injection sites. This is normal and usually goes away within a few days.

To avoid side effects and speed up healing, you must:

  • During the day after the session, control your facial expressions. Do not touch your face with your hands or massage the injection sites. Don't sleep on your stomach.
  • For 2-3 days, do not try to disguise the injection sites with corrector, foundation, etc.
  • For 2 weeks, refrain from saunas, steam baths, solariums, active physical activity, and hide your face from UV rays.
