Wide nose rhinoplasty: methods and features

The nose, as the central part of the face, determines a person's appearance. Birth defects or consequences of injury change the face, depriving it of attractiveness. Traumatic injuries often result in “permanent facial disfigurement,” a medico-legal term. Not only does a person’s appearance change, but irreversible changes in physiology also occur due to impaired nasal breathing.

The purpose of plastic surgery is to give a new shape to this important part of the face. Correction of the most “responsible” area, from an anatomical point of view, the dorsum of the nose, gives the patient a completely new appearance. There are certain medical contraindications for rhinoplasty.

Nose correction

Our clinic employs high-class professionals who understand how important it is to ensure that the patient is satisfied with his reflection in the mirror. Undoubtedly, rhinoplasty is a complex operation. Not only the appearance of the patient depends on the talent and experience of the surgeon; the operation must be performed so that it does not affect nasal breathing.

There are a number of defects for which people most often come to our clinic to correct:

  • nasal hump;
  • saddle-shaped deformity as a result of disease or injury;
  • the bridge of the nose is too narrow or too wide;
  • scoliotic deformities of the nasal dorsum after injuries;
  • wide, drooping or forked tip;
  • upturned or snub-nosed tip of the nose;
  • various asymmetries and deformations of the tip of the nose.

Indications and contraindications for rhinoplasty

All indications for this intervention can be divided into medical and cosmetic. The first group is disorders that objectively affect health. In most cases, these are anatomical changes that impair respiratory function.

With the second group of reasons (cosmetic), a person is simply dissatisfied with his appearance. In such cases, rhinoplasty, for example, of a large or crooked nose, works as a psychological factor: it improves a person’s self-esteem and his perception of his own appearance.

The most common indications:

  • acquired nasal deformities;
  • curvature of the nasal septum;
  • excessively long or, conversely, short nose;
  • pronounced hump;
  • strongly raised, drooping, narrowed or wide tip.

Effect of rhinoplasty

You will have to wear a bandage for 2 weeks after surgery. Also, for the entire next month you need to give up spicy, too hot or too cold foods, intense physical activity and wearing glasses. Try to strain your facial muscles to a minimum and be especially careful if you remove clothes over your head.

After the rehabilitation period, your nose will take on exactly the shape you wanted to see. It will become more proportional, with a clearly defined bridge of the nose, neat nostrils, wings and tip.

Methods of performing nose surgery

1. Closed method of rhinoplasty . Currently, it is used most often because it has the most predictable result and is less traumatic, since it eliminates disruption of tissue trophism, allowing the surgeon to perform all the necessary manipulations during rhinoplasty.

2. Open method of nose surgery . Nowadays it is used less frequently, as it leaves an external scar on the skin septum between the nostrils - the columella. Open rhinoplasty is mainly used for repeated surgeries.

Rhinoplasty can be supplemented with an operation aimed at improving nasal breathing (septoplasty). This combined operation is called rhinoseptoplasty .

Rhinoplasty: wide nose

The source of the problem in this case may be widely spaced cartilages of the nasal wings. In this case, plastic surgery of the wings of the nose is performed. If the bony part of the nasal dorsum is located widely, then closed rhinoplasty and osteotomy are performed.

In practice, most often these two methods are used simultaneously.

Nose rhinoplasty: hump

A nose with a hump can be a real disaster, especially for a girl. It is with this problem that patients turn to doctors most often for rhinoplasty. The specialists of our clinic will help correct this absurd mistake of nature.

The hump is a bone callus located in the dorsum of the nose. In this case, the closed rhinoplasty method is used. In some cases, correction of the tip of the nose is performed, the reason for which is the visual lengthening of the nose after removal of the hump.

Rhinoplasty of the tip of the nose

This operation can be performed to correct the size of the wings and tip of the nose, and change its shape using a closed approach. Since the shape, thickness, and strength of cartilage are individual for each person, the doctor details the surgical plan specifically for each patient individually.

Rhinoplasty: scoliotic deformities of the nasal dorsum

In this case, the purpose of the operation is to re-sculpt a new nose. For this, cartilage or silicone implants are used.

I would like to emphasize that any plastic surgeon will choose techniques that will be effective both for the aesthetic side of the operation and for the safety of the patient. Also, one of the key points is the restoration of breathing, that is, the functional part of rhinoplasty. After all, in addition to beauty, the patient also wants to get a healthy and breathing nose.

Rehabilitation after correction of the nasal bridge

The results of the operation depend on the following factors:

  • dimensions of the nasal dorsum and cartilage structure;
  • thickness of subcutaneous fat;
  • the ability of the skin to stretch;
  • the initial state of the bone tissue that makes up the frame of the nasal dorsum.

For the first 2 days after surgery, the patient can breathe only through the mouth, then the tampons are removed. The plaster splint is removed after one week. After correction of the bridge of the nose, it is recommended to sleep on your back for 3-4 days with your head and upper body held high.

After one or two weeks, the face takes on a completely healthy appearance. For 2-3 months, patients are not recommended to wear glasses or visit the sauna. For the same period of time, physical activity is limited.

The final result of the operation appears after 9-12 months, after local swelling in the surgical area disappears.

What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical operation to change the shape and/or size of the nose. The purpose of such an intervention may be not only to eliminate a cosmetic defect, but also to restore normal breathing. Depending on which part of the nose is corrected, there are several types of rhinoplasty:

  • nose tip rhinoplasty
  • nostrilplasty
  • rhinoseptoplasty (alignment of the nasal septum followed by correction of the shape of the nose)
  • complete rhinoplasty (comprehensive correction of nasal structures without affecting the septum)
  • post-traumatic plastic surgery (elimination of deformities after injuries)

Rhinoplasty of the nose, which involves correcting the results of a previous operation, is called secondary or revision.

How much does rhinoplasty cost?

The price of rhinoplasty depends on the extent of the intervention. Correction of the tip of the nose is the cheapest, post-traumatic rhinoplasty is more expensive. The cost of the service includes:

  • specialist consultations before and after surgery
  • anesthesia
  • nose job
  • consumables and dressings
  • hospital stay (food and care)

Where it all begins: how do we prepare patients for rhinoplasty?

Consultation

At your initial appointment, you will meet rhinoplasty surgeon Sergei Arkadyevich Kharitonov and discuss all your concerns. The doctor will examine the condition of the tissues, the shape of the nose and ask you to clarify what exactly and how much you want to change. The degree of defects is determined using special measurements, the results of which are compared with the average statistical parameters. Based on your wishes and analysis of facial proportions, the doctor will suggest the optimal correction technique.

Computer modelling

At your request, the surgeon can design the future image on a computer. To do this, he will take several photographs of your face in front and profile, then, using a special program, he will make the expected changes: he will remove excess, straighten unevenness, and correct the contours of the nose.

Making corrections on a computer is much easier than working with living tissue. Therefore, the sketch you see on the screen will most likely differ from the actual result of the operation. However, it will serve as a kind of “guideline” for the doctor. By embodying an imaginary image in a photo, you and the doctor will be sure that you understood each other correctly.

At the end of the appointment, the surgeon will announce the exact cost of the operation and tell you about all the nuances of its implementation.

Survey

After you confirm the decision to undergo rhinoplasty, you will be prescribed a set of necessary diagnostic procedures:

  • blood tests for HIV, hepatitis, syphilis
  • Blood group and Rh factor tests
  • general urine and blood tests
  • blood chemistry
  • rhinomanometry (study of nasal breathing function)
  • ECG

Most of the studies are performed in our clinic and are already included in the price of the correction.

On the eve of the operation, you will sign a formal contract listing all the services that we undertake to provide.
