A double chin is a sagging area of skin that appears with age due to the accumulation of excess fat in the chin and neck area.

However, the appearance of a double chin is not necessarily a consequence of age-related sagging skin (gravitational ptosis), because Even young people may develop a double chin for a number of reasons:

  • structural features of the body and heredity (massive jaw, angle formed by the neck and lower jaw, protrusion of the mandibular bones, neck length, etc.);
  • incorrect posture;
  • incorrect head position while sleeping, reading, sitting at a PC;
  • hormonal disorders leading to impaired fat metabolism;
  • thyroid diseases;
  • excess weight (when gaining weight, fat cells accumulate in the neck area, and when losing weight they are the last to go);
  • sudden weight loss;
  • lack of physical activity;
  • etc.

Features of the procedure

This procedure is complicated by the fact that in the chin area there are many small muscles responsible for clear articulation.
Due to their close location to each other, there is a risk of the solution going beyond the desired limits, which in turn can lead to improper functioning of neighboring muscles. It is for this reason that many specialists refuse to inject botulinum toxin into the lower third of the face. Chin correction is still only performed if the patient has specific problems. Only those doctors who have thoroughly studied the structure of the facial muscles, have many years of experience and are able to calculate the dose of the drug with maximum accuracy have the right to inject Botox into the chin.

Procedure

When correcting the lower third of the face, the classic option is used, when Botox is injected into the chin intramuscularly at two points. Thanks to Botox's ability to block neuromuscular impulses, hypertonicity will soon decrease. Habitual creases in the chin area disappear approximately 1-2 weeks after the injection.

After about 2-4 weeks, patients are recommended to undergo procedures aimed at smoothing the facial skin - various skin peelings, cosmetic masks.

To avoid side effects after chin correction with botulinum toxin, the patient should follow the following recommendations for several hours after the procedure:

  • avoid inclined or horizontal position of the body;
  • don't strain;
  • do not massage the points where the drug was injected;
  • do not warm your face;
  • do not take alcohol and antibiotics.

The effectiveness of Botox in the chin area increases with regular application of moisturizers. Ultimately, the expression wrinkle smooths out and ceases to be noticeable. If the desired result was achieved immediately after the botulinum toxin injection, then the procedure is not repeated.

How to remove a double chin using mesotherapy?

Numerous hardware techniques promise a visible effect after several procedures, but their capabilities are sometimes greatly exaggerated, and liposuction is a serious operation and not everyone is ready to resort to it. That is why it makes sense to undergo a course of injection mesotherapy for the chin. This technique is really effective, and in terms of price-quality ratio it can easily claim first place among many other methods for solving this problem. Oksana Zakharova, a cosmetologist at the State Scientific Center for Discretion and Dispensation, answered our questions related to mesotherapy for the double chin area.

— Are there many people who want to correct this particular zone in this way?

Oksana Zakharova
:

− Quite a lot, considering that chin mesotherapy gives quick visible results, has a short rehabilitation period and often surpasses in efficiency many hardware procedures used for a similar purpose. Moreover, the majority of patients who turn to a cosmetologist with this problem do not have the opportunity to often visit a cosmetology office for various reasons and, as a rule, are interested in the total number of procedures (preferably fewer), rehabilitation periods (preferably shorter), the speed of procedures and, of course, the total cost of a course of chin correction using mesotherapy.

— Do patients find this measure effective? What is your opinion?

- Of course, everything depends on the specific patient and the specific situation, because when we talk about mesotherapy, we do not mean a radical method of correcting a double chin, such as, for example, liposuction. This needs to be understood. That is why I can say with confidence that the method allows you to get rid of a double chin, but the number of necessary procedures to achieve a visible result and the need to combine this correction method with other methods (for example, hardware) is determined and recommended by a cosmetologist individually.

— Is chin mesotherapy suitable as monotherapy or is it better to combine it with something? If yes, then with what?

− Suitable both as monotherapy and in combination with other methods. It is unlikely that monotherapy will give a 100% result in the case of significant fat deposits, but it will undoubtedly improve the situation and the patient will be satisfied. The question of the need and possibility of combining mesotherapy with other methods of chin correction is always posed to the patient and the cosmetologist, but I will say again that everything depends on each specific case. There are currently enough procedures for correcting a double chin to determine options for combining 2-3 techniques per course. And no more is required. On the day of the session and 2 days after, it is not recommended to perform any other influences, as they can reduce the effect of mesotherapy. This can be manual massage, Rf-lifting, dermotonia, and ozone therapy...

Those interested in the question “How to get rid of a double chin” should know that “removing” excess fat deposits only means partially solving the problem. Very often, patients want to quickly get rid of a double chin and sometimes do not suspect (even though our patients are well-informed) that with the rapid “melting” of fat, the skin in the correction area also sag quickly. It is important to understand that if a cosmetologist offers a course of correction of a double chin, consisting of 2-3 methods, this is done, as a rule, not in order to increase the cost of treatment, but in order to influence not only the fat cell (adipocyte ), but also on all factors involved in the development of the problem. It is necessary to stimulate peripheral blood circulation, strengthen the walls of blood vessels, improve turgor, skin elasticity, and influence connective tissue... Otherwise, with the disappearance of the double chin, the patient faces a new serious problem of excess skin in the double chin area.

— How to remove a double chin using mesotherapy? What drugs are injected into this area?

− To correct a double chin using mesotherapy, several different drugs of plant and animal origin (fetal) or synthesized in laboratories are used during the course. The composition of the cocktail is always chosen by a cosmetologist, based on the problem and individual characteristics of the body. A professional specialist who knows how to remove a double chin selects components that eliminate lymph stagnation, improve blood microcirculation, relieve swelling and, of course, lipolytics.

— Since when has the technique been certified in Russia?

− Medical technology - “Mesotherapy in dermatocosmetology” (RU M3 RF No. FS-2006/057-04) was registered in Russia in 2006.

— How many sessions are needed? How often? What is the maximum interval between sessions?

− The number of procedures varies. It is determined by the severity of the problem, the patient’s age and his adaptive abilities. On average, 2-10 chin correction procedures. Sometimes the result is noticeable after the first procedure, but more often by the third or fourth. Procedures are carried out once every 7-14 days, depending on the drugs used. Lipolytic drugs, such as phosphatidylcholine, are administered once every 10-14 days. And then 1 maintenance procedure per month is recommended.

— What is the pricing system for this zone? Minimum price?

−Different clinics and beauty salons calculate this procedure by zone, by the amount of drug administered, by the number of drugs in the cocktail. The cost starts from 2000 thousand per procedure.

- This area is very painful. What are your pain management options? How long before the procedure should the anesthetic be applied for maximum effect?

− Pain sensations depend on individual sensitivity, on the drugs used in the cocktail, and, in a sense, on the mesotherapist’s technique. To reduce pain, before getting rid of a double chin, apply anesthetic cream Emla 5% or Anestop for 15-20 minutes. Considering the small area of the double chin, locality and speed of implementation, the procedures are usually tolerated by the patient with minimal discomfort.

— What are the contraindications? Possible complications?

− Contraindications to injection mesotherapy of the chin are the same as for mesotherapy in general: cholelithiasis, allergic reaction to injected drugs and their components, acute infectious disease (the procedure is best performed a week after recovery), pregnancy, lactation, autoimmune diseases, cancer diseases, hemorrhagic syndrome, taking anticoagulants, retinoids and antibiotics, poor epithelization, exacerbation of dermatoses, intolerance to the drug (a preliminary test is recommended).

When correcting the chin with any drugs, complications are possible in the form of a secondary infection; granulomas also need to be remembered. The reason for this may be the presence of foci of infection at the site of mesotherapy (acne, facial pyoderma, herpetic infection...), insufficient disinfection before and after the procedure, or the patient’s failure to comply with the cosmetologist’s recommendations for home care of the corrected area.

Eschimosis cannot be called a serious complication. But some patients are upset by them. What to do with them?

− It is very difficult to imagine injection techniques separately from bruises. This is an undesirable temporary phenomenon that every doctor has encountered in his practice. Ecchymosis is not a rule, but in practice it most often becomes the rule, especially for patients with thin, sensitive skin, rosacea, and blood coagulation disorders.

In order to minimize the likelihood of bruising after chin mesotherapy, the cosmetologist asks the patient not to take aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs the day before the procedure. It is not recommended to carry out the procedure at the beginning of the menstrual cycle.

During the procedure, the doctor controls the depth and speed of drug administration; the faster and deeper the injections, the more likely bruises will appear. Immediately after the injections, you can apply an ice pack or firmly press the injection site with a finger and wait 1-3 minutes.

If it was not possible to avoid bruises or ecchymoses appeared the next day after the procedure, it is recommended to use hepatrombin, troxevasin or heparin ointments, Lyoton gel, gel with badyaga, creams with arnica and vitamin K. This will help shorten the rehabilitation period, but, unfortunately, not in one day. Therefore, it is easier to try to prevent such reactions as much as possible.

Is the volume of administered drugs strictly regulated? Is there a technique to help get rid of a double chin using mesotherapy?

− There are prescribed methodological recommendations for the use of a particular drug, which prescribe the compatibility, quantity, and frequency of administration of drugs designed for the procedure; then everything depends on the qualifications of the doctor who will carry out the procedure.

Failure by a cosmetologist to follow the technique of administering drugs can lead not only to a decrease in the effectiveness of the procedure, but also to a number of unwanted side effects. There are societies of mesotherapists, where doctors share personal experience and improve existing techniques, develop the most effective and safe ways to correct the chin and cellulite in general using the mesotherapy method.

Of course, when carrying out any injection techniques, in rare cases side effects may occur, even when the procedure was carried out correctly. Therefore, you need to contact only a qualified specialist who can always prevent or promptly eliminate all the negative consequences of mesotherapy if they occur.

In general, in order to avoid any frightening complications, you need to choose the “right” institution, a qualified specialist and speak honestly about your health, without hiding anything. Before a course of chin mesotherapy, the doctor may recommend preliminary examinations in order to determine possible contraindications.
