Indications for face lift

With age, a person's face changes, excess skin appears, and the surface area of the face increases. The appearance of a wide “floating” face appears. Contraindications

The patient's age is not a decisive factor in refusal of surgery or indication for it. We look more at the patient’s health status, the presence or absence of chronic diseases. A facelift is usually performed on patients between 40 and 65 years of age. This is explained by the fact that in a younger state it is possible to do without surgery, but in an older age, surgery can lead to negative consequences, both for the patient’s health and for healing. At this age, skin regeneration decreases significantly and the rehabilitation period increases.

Operation

A facelift operation may involve not only skin tightening, but also a complex operation involving tightening of the deep muscular-fascial structures of the cheeks and neck. For this purpose, SMAS plastic surgery of the cheeks and neck is performed. According to indications, plastic surgery of the cervical muscle (platysma) is performed, in which the vertical chords of the diverged edges of the platysma are eliminated. Access is through a small 2.5 cm incision in the mental sulcus.

If there is significant excess skin on the forehead, surgery with the so-called “open” access is more recommended - coronary forehead lift. With the open method, fairly large excess skin of the forehead (3-4 cm) is removed, wrinkles are straightened, eyebrows and glabella are raised, and drooping outer corners of the eyes are raised.

A facelift is a surgical intervention; to prepare for such an operation, it is necessary to undergo tests and undergo additional examinations, which should exclude contraindications to plastic surgery. The operation takes up to 2 hours when working with facial skin, up to 4 hours when lifting the skin of the neck, face as a whole, up to 6 hours when lifting the forehead and eyebrows.

Rehabilitation period

The rehabilitation period is divided into early postoperative and late. Bruising and swelling are typical symptoms for several days after surgery. Sutures are removed 5-7-12 days after surgery, depending on the location of their application and the speed of healing in a particular patient. The early postoperative period lasts 2 - 3 weeks. At this time, swelling goes down, bruises resolve, and postoperative scars form. During this period, it is very important to follow and follow all the surgeon’s recommendations so as not to spoil the result of the operation. The help of a cosmetologist during this period is also important. The preliminary effect of a facelift can be observed 3-4 weeks after surgery.
