Tattooing is the introduction of colored pigment under the skin. Depth – approximately 0.5-1 mm, area of influence – hairy part of the eyebrows. If the shape of the eyebrows needs to be changed, then the dye is applied beyond the boundaries of hair growth. This is also often done if the eyebrows are naturally very thin.
In the first days after the tattoo procedure (permanent makeup), eyebrows need care. The skin should not be exposed to aggressive influences. In addition, until healing is complete, eyebrows do not look very beautiful. Therefore, plan a few days of “home” regimen after the procedure. If going outside is unavoidable, buy large sunglasses that cover your eyebrows.
Healing process
Immediately after the introduction of the pigment, the skin becomes inflamed, red, and swollen, but the next day it subsides. This is a natural reaction of the dermis to multiple needle punctures. The treatment area may “bleed” slightly, and ichor is released from it. The entire healing process, if the rules and recommendations are followed, takes up to 10 days. However, this period is purely individual.
Why modern artists do not recommend smearing tattoos
With permanent makeup, the pigment is introduced into the upper layer of the epidermis without forming deep punctures: 0.5-1 mm, depending on the technique. You should not immediately apply cream after eyebrow tattooing. Healing ointments and creams prevent the appearance of a crust, softening the skin, and prevent the ichor from hardening. The formation of a crust is necessary to absorb the pigment and protect the skin from infections. From the first day of recovery, you only need to smear your eyebrows with antiseptic agents, and after a crust has formed, apply Vaseline to soften and exfoliate.

Do I need to treat my eyebrows immediately after the procedure?
After tattooing, swelling and redness appear, and ichor is released. This is a normal reaction to damage to the skin. However, a prolonged inflammatory process leads to a decrease in pigment concentration, lightening or uneven coloring.
To improve eyebrow healing, the first 2 days of tattooing should be smeared with antiseptic agents:
- "Chlorhexidine" is used to treat wounds, accelerates the healing process, and has bactericidal and antifungal properties. You can’t smear it on for a long period after tattooing, it causes dry skin on the eyebrows, discomfort, and allergic reactions. If it gets on the mucous membrane of the eye, it causes a severe burn. It is necessary to rinse the eye with plenty of water and consult an ophthalmologist.
- Miramistin eliminates fungal, bacterial and viral infections. Does not cause adverse reactions after use, there are no contraindications after tattooing.
Bactericidal solutions disinfect the surface of the skin and protect against infections and bacteria entering wounds. Apply with a cotton pad or cotton swab to the surface of the eyebrows after every 2-3 hours. Before application, remove the ichor using a napkin or cotton pad.
What products are suggested for smearing eyebrows after permanent makeup?
Restoration of the skin of the eyebrows after the procedure takes from 5 to 14 days. The duration of the period depends on the level of professionalism of the master, technique and individual properties of the skin. It is known that powder tattooing requires less attention to care; minimal punctures are made during the procedure.

During the healing period, it is forbidden to smear yourself with scrubs, lotions, tonics, or alcohol-based products; you should refrain from wearing makeup until complete healing.
Do not use cosmetic and baby creams until the crusts peel off. They contain oils that are excessively moisturizing and negatively affect the pigment. For quick recovery and high-quality results, it is necessary to smear the surface of the eyebrows after the tattoo procedure until complete healing until the resulting crust peels off on its own.
When choosing care products, increased attention should be paid to healing and anti-inflammatory drugs:
- "Panthenol" guarantees accelerated regeneration of damaged eyebrow skin after tattooing and relieves inflammation. Provides the formation of a crust, which is intended to provide natural protection against infection. Cream and ointment should be applied to the damaged area using a cotton swab 4-5 times a day in a layer of medium thickness. Abundant application of the product leads to a softening of the protective layer, after which it peels off along with the pigment. Analogues that contain despanthenol with provitamin B5 are also used: “Pantoderm”, “Rescuer”, “Despranthenol”, “Bepanten”, “D-panthenol”, “Pantocrem”.
- Boro Plus ointment is used as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent. The herbal components in the preparation have a wound-healing effect on the eyebrows and reduce itching and redness in the tattoo area. Before use, you need to check the possibility of an individual allergic reaction to plant extracts in the cream that you are going to smear on the damaged area.
- "Levomekol" is used in case of severe inflammation, swelling, to prevent suppuration of the eyebrow tattoo area. The drug contains antibiotics that provide an effective antibacterial effect. Apply 3-4 times a day for 2-3 days until redness decreases.
- Tetracycline ointment contains an antibiotic that fights inflammation and bacterial infections on the skin of the eyebrows. Apply a thin layer 2 times a day. Contraindications for use are individual intolerance to tetracycline, pregnancy, and lactation.
- Fougera ointment is used as an anti-inflammatory and healing agent after all types of tattooing. Relieves swelling and prevents cracks. The composition includes vitamins A and D, which help accelerate skin regeneration. Apply a thin layer to the eyebrows for 3 days, 2-3 times a day.
- Vitamin E promotes skin regeneration and restoration. Applying the vitamin undiluted in a thin layer to the skin speeds up the healing process. Vitamin E is sensitive to ultraviolet radiation, so after use, refrain from walking, protect your eyebrows from direct sunlight in the place where they were applied.
Also, care for eyebrow tattooing after applying permanent makeup depends on the time of year. In summer, it is necessary to apply sunscreen with an SPF factor of 30 or more, since under the influence of sunlight the pigment lightens and fades.
The use of folk remedies should be limited to a decoction of chamomile flowers or marigold. The decoction, frozen in cubes, is applied to relieve swelling, restore and heal the epidermis on the eyebrows.
Vaseline and its analogues for quick removal of crusts
Vaseline has healing and softening properties, which is why it is actively used in cosmetology. By forming a protective barrier on the surface of the eyebrows, it prevents the damaged areas of the tattoo from drying out, the formation of cracks and the penetration of infection. The product should be smeared with a thin layer 4-6 times a day until the skin is completely restored and the scab is removed. In addition to Vaseline, you can also apply products with a similar pharmacological effect:
- “Deoxynate” is a solution for external use, reduces the inflammatory process, accelerates skin regeneration, therefore, crusts disappear faster. The solution is spread on the eyebrows using a cotton swab 3-4 times a day for 4 days.
- "Methyluracil" stimulates the body's immune system and promotes the healing of damaged epithelium, eliminates itching and discomfort. After tattooing, the ointment should be applied 4-5 times a day until complete healing.
- "Solcoseryl" is produced in the form of ointment and gel. Unlike Vaseline, it does not clog pores and promotes the penetration of oxygen into tissues and their rapid restoration. You need to smear your eyebrows with Solcoseryl after a crust has formed 3-4 times a day.
There is a wide variety of similar products, but Vaseline is a universal remedy for care after permanent makeup. It has no side effects, odor or fragrance, and is easy to spread.
Recommendations for caring for eyelid tattoos
- All the above general recommendations are relevant for this zone.
- After the procedure, Hydrocortisone 5% and Tetracycline ophthalmic ointments are used as needed. If you are concerned about slight swelling, make a dry compress with ice placed in a plastic bag.
- Do not use mascara or decorative eye shadow until the crusts are completely peeled off.
The good news is that the eyelids, the most delicate area, heal faster than the lips and eyebrows, so very soon you will forget about the discomfort and enjoy the lasting results.
What means and methods will spoil eyebrows?
In order for tattooing to achieve the desired result, it is necessary to take a responsible approach to the choice of care products - not all anti-inflammatory drugs and antiseptics are equally suitable for tattooing:
- Do not apply hydrocortisone cream. The drug contains hormones that increase blood pressure, impair blood clotting, and the healing process of eyebrows takes longer;
- hydrogen peroxide is characterized by bactericidal properties, while hydrogen is an oxidizing agent, discolors, and destroys coloring pigments;
- lanolin has the properties of petroleum jelly, but if you smear it on your eyebrows after tattooing, it causes a loss of color of the coloring pigment: the product penetrates into the layer of the epidermis, bringing the pigment out, changing the shade;
- You should not smear your eyebrows with oils after the tattoo procedure without first consulting a specialist. Castor, sea buckthorn, and coconut oils contain acids, which are natural brighteners.
