Breast replacement: myths, reality, consequences

When breast augmentation occurs, the most pressing question is the size of the future implant. This indicator largely determines the future result and is considered by patients as the main one. Plastic surgeons have a slightly different opinion: the shape and size of the breast is influenced not only by the size of the endoprosthesis, but also by other characteristics, including the anatomical features of the female body. Independent attempts to determine the required volume usually do not lead to success. Only a plastic surgeon can choose the appropriate implant size and predict the final result after mammoplasty.

What influences the choice of endoprosthesis?

The decision on the volume of the future implant is made in consultation with a plastic surgeon. At this stage, the doctor listens to the wishes and preferences of the patient, and in choosing the size of the endoprosthesis is based on them. The following factors play an important role in making the final decision:

  • Anatomical characteristics of the patient's chest. During the examination, the surgeon pays attention to the individual structural features of each patient: width, volume, distance between the ribs, condition of the skin and muscle frame.
  • The structure and initial volumes of the mammary gland. To select the optimal implant, the width of the breast itself, its height, and size are important. If the diameter of the endoprosthesis is chosen incorrectly, technical difficulties will arise during its installation, and after surgery there will be a high risk of contouring the edges of the implant.
  • General physique. The type of figure plays an important role and largely determines the shape and volume of the future endoprosthesis. For example, women with a thin build are advised to pay attention to teardrop-shaped implants of medium or high profile, while those with curvaceous figures can have both anatomical and round implants with a high or extra-high profile.

In most cases, implants with too large a volume (400 ml or more) lead to an unnatural appearance and are not recommended for installation. After prosthetics with such implants, not only the aesthetic effect is worse, but there is also a risk of mastoptosis - prolapse of the gland due to the inability of soft tissues to hold the implant.

In addition to the listed factors, a good specialist takes into account a number of others: the patient’s lifestyle, occupation, reproductive plans. All of them influence the final decision and determine the characteristics of the implant.

Breast augmentation

Mammoplasty is an operation whose purpose is to increase or restore the size of the mammary glands.

Why breast augmentation?

  • Look attractive in clothes, in a swimsuit, and without them
  • Restore elasticity and beautiful shape, especially in case of loss of shape after the birth of a child
  • Restore the symmetry of the mammary glands
  • Increase self-confidence

How is breast augmentation surgery performed?

  1. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia.
  2. The plastic surgeon cuts into the breast to create a pocket. He selects the size of silicone implants to suit the patient’s anatomical parameters.

What do the cuts look like and where will they be located?

They can be made in one of three places:

  • around the lower edge of the areola
  • near the armpits
  • under the breasts
  1. Additionally, the doctor can perform a lipofilling procedure.
  2. The surgeon applies bandages to the stitches.
  3. You will be escorted to the recovery room.
Contraindications to breast augmentation
  • Age up to 18 years
  • Pregnancy planning, pregnancy
  • Less than six months have passed since the end of lactation
  • Acute phase of ARVI
  • Chronic diseases: hypertension, diabetes, bronchopulmonary disorders, liver or kidney failure
  • Oncology
  • AIDS
Relative contraindications, the decision on which is made individually in each case:
  • Benign tumors
  • Chronic diseases without exacerbations
  • Hepatitis
  • HIV

How to prepare for breast augmentation surgery?

  1. You sign up for a consultation
  2. The plastic surgeon will tell you how you can get the desired result, what medications and stress you will need to avoid before and after surgery.
  3. The doctor will conduct an examination, ask questions about your medical history and help you determine the ideal breast size. He will take photographs and use a 3D image to show you what results you can expect.
  4. You will have a mammogram and a number of general tests.
  5. If you smoke, you will have to give up this habit for at least 2 weeks before and after surgery. Smoking slows down the healing process of wounds.
  6. If you are planning to lose weight or, conversely, become pregnant, be sure to let us know. The doctor will tell you how best to proceed in order to fulfill your wishes and preserve the results for a long time.

How much does it cost to get a breast job?

The price of the procedure varies from 120 thousand to 220 thousand rubles, depending on which implants you choose. You can see the full price list for the clinic’s services below.

Choosing the optimal implant size

Selecting an endoprosthesis based on your own preferences is not the best solution. The patient cannot independently imagine what the breasts will look like after prosthetics of one size or another. The result after surgery can only be determined by a plastic surgeon who has performed hundreds of similar operations.

The volume of implants is measured in cubic centimeters (cc). Most manufacturers produce endoprostheses in the range from 150 to 800 cc. In plastic surgery, implants from 250 to 400 cc are most often used. Some women mistakenly assume that every 100 cc. cm is +1 additional size to your own chest. In fact, this is not the case, and the result obtained after surgery is influenced not only by the volume of the implant, but also by its profile.

Plastic surgeons believe that breast enlargement of more than 3 sizes has additional risks, so they often recommend that women consider their decision. Naturally, breasts look no larger than size 4, and volumes exceeding this figure not only reduce the aesthetic effect, but also bring discomfort in everyday life.

Implants are our everything.

There are a lot of myths and rumors about silicone implants. They say that they are harmful, freeze in the cold and even explode when pressure changes. Let's try to figure out how things really are.

0

First, let's look at the types of breast prostheses. In modern plastic surgery, as a rule, 2 types of breast implants are used: - saline - the oldest type, it is a saline solution placed in a silicone bag. - silicone - a more modern and expensive type of implant, it is a bag filled with silicone gel. This type is divided into several other subtypes, depending on the properties of the filler (density, hardness, etc.). In addition, the “bags” themselves also differ in shape (round and teardrop-shaped, symmetrical and asymmetrical) and in surface type (smooth and textured). The most expensive implants today are anatomical (drop-shaped) implants, which look more natural. And textured ones (with a “sponge” surface), which, according to research, “take root” better.

How to enlarge breasts to the first size?

Women with size zero resort to various tricks to visually enlarge their mammary glands: using special underwear with push-up technology and silicone inserts, and correctly placing accents with clothing. However, these methods do not help on the beach, in the sauna or steam bath, and especially not in bed. At these moments, a woman begins to think about surgical breast correction.

Those with small busts rarely dream of dramatic changes: they often want to slightly enlarge their breasts and maintain their miniature size. This can be achieved with the help of small implants, adding 1 or 2 sizes. This decision is understandable: any woman will feel uncomfortable going from size zero to size four, and her body is not prepared for such changes.

Why do I have size zero breasts? Could this be a disease?

Focusing their attention on the shortcomings of their own figure, many women wonder why their mammary glands remain size zero. If a similar feature is observed in other women in the family, questions usually do not arise and all responsibility is placed on bad heredity. If a girl is an exception among her busty relatives, suspicions often arise that the small breast size is associated with some pathological process. In fact, in rare cases, the cause of “zero” may actually be a deficiency of female sex hormones, but this probability is extremely low.

In the vast majority of cases, zero breast size is not a pathology and is only an aesthetic defect. At the same time, some women achieve femininity and sexuality, even without having curvaceous figures and noting that some men even like this feature of the female figure.

Benefits of silicone in the breast

Plastic surgery is recommended to correct physical defects, such as the consequences of a mastectomy, loss of breast attractiveness after childbirth, prolonged breastfeeding or sudden weight loss, and congenital asymmetry of the mammary glands. In this case, silicone implants will give a woman confidence in her own attractiveness and restore her feeling of fullness. This type of prosthesis is most popular among doctors because it has tangible advantages:

  • Eurosilicon does not change shape over time.
  • Accurately imitates anatomical features.
  • Varies in softness and elasticity.
  • Silicone does not spread if the integrity of the capsule membrane is damaged.

Implants with cohesive (viscous) gel are the least dangerous to use compared to prostheses filled with saline solution or soy hydrogel. But if a woman agrees to surgery, wanting to gain an army of fans or increase self-esteem, then even the largest breasts created with the help of silicone capsules will not change the situation until psychological maturity appears. And remember: gigantomania and hypertrophied sizes are a thing of the past - now naturalness is in fashion.

Consequences of bust correction

If mammoplasty with the introduction of silicone endoprostheses caused the problems listed above, they will have to be removed, treated and a repeat operation. Negative consequences may also have a different nature:

  • Wound infection,
    allergies to anesthesia and the implants themselves;
  • formation of seromas or hematomas;
  • wound infection;
  • blood clot formation.

But such results occur in a minority of cases. There is a much more serious consequence of using silicone - an increased risk of developing one type of cancer. This is an anaplastic large cell lymphoma that may appear several years after surgery.

There are temporary painful sensations that force women to refuse correction with implants:

  • postoperative pain, which is relieved by tablets and disappears after 2 - 4 weeks;
  • swelling that disappears after the same time;
  • bruises on the skin that resolve within a few days;
  • a feeling of fullness in the mammary glands, associated with the skin getting used to their new volume.

But silicone for breasts also has advantages that persist for many years after the installation of endoprostheses:

  • solving psychological problems, eliminating complexes;

  • correction of otherwise uncorrectable appearance defects that have arisen over time or after tumor removal;
  • elimination of congenital physical defects.

Engraftment time

The new contours of the mammary glands are immediately obvious. But their appearance without clothes is still far from ideal. And the body must get used to the implants. It will take two to three weeks for the swelling to disappear and the discomfort to go away. The final appearance of the breast and tissue adaptation to foreign bodies will be revealed after 3 months, if no complications arise. And for some women, the “shrinkage” of endoprostheses can last for a year.

To avoid problems while getting used to it, you will have to wear compression garments, make sure that your breasts do not overheat, and prevent the prostheses from moving.
